Abusive And Hazardous Drinking Leads To Depression And Mental Health Issues, An Enabling Wife, And Inspiration For Affirmative Change

It took several years but Sarah eventually determined that she had enough with her husband's careless and hazardous drinking. She was fed up from seeing Keith come home after midnight from drinking rather than spending time with the family. She was also worn-out from the DWI Keith recently received. Moreover she was sick of generating explanations for Keith when he couldn't show up for work on time due to his careless drinking.

Not only this but she was nervous about the fact that their relationship was getting worse due to Keith's excessive and hazardous drinking. And lastly she was fed up from the insecure financial mess into which he had put his family due to his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior.

One Sunday morning when Sarah was reflecting on what she could do about her husband's excessive and hazardous drinking, she got to the point that she honestly had to do something helpful to cut into the destructive cycle of Keith's careless and hazardous drinking behavior. So Sarah looked in the local yellow pages under "alcohol treatment" and found quite a few rehab facilities that were all located less than forty-five miles away from where her husband and she resided.

When Sarah called each rehabilitation clinic she introduced herself and said that her husband was engaging in excessive and hazardous drinking behavior. She also said that Keith had a fine health insurance program at his job and that residential or outpatient alcohol rehab would be covered if a physician in the company health program called for the rehabilitation.

After listening to Sarah talk about her husband's abusive and unhealthy drinking, the healthcare practitioner in a supportive but firm manner explained to Sarah how she probably played a major role in her spouse's careless and excessive drinking through the months and the years. How? Primarily by covering for him rather than allowing him to suffer the outcomes of his excessive and hazardous drinking behavior.

Stated in a slightly different way, the healthcare professional stated to Sarah that she may have been inadvertently enabling Keith's careless drinking behavior. The therapist also stressed the fact that Sarah could not control Keith's conduct. With the support and encouragement of the rehab team at the rehabilitation facility, however, she would not only be able to learn how to refrain from contributing to Keith's excessive and abusive drinking but she could also learn how to help him schedule an appointment at the rehabilitation center so that he could go over his careless drinking behavior with a therapist.

Fortunately after Sarah explained this to her husband and he saw that she meant business, he told her that he had been extremely nervous regarding his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior and that he was very relieved to hear that Sarah wanted to do something productive about his excessive and abusive drinking behavior. As a consequence, he made an appointment to see a healthcare practitioner at the local alcohol rehabilitation facility.

While simply calling a rehabilitation center does not ensure that an individual's excessive and abusive drinking behavior will end or that a person will automatically be more willing to learning about alcohol abuse facts, calling for an appointment is undoubtedly a vital step in the treatment process. And because Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting professional help for his hazardous and excessive drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the likelihood of a successful recovery was greatly augmented.
