A Thursday Evening Out With Classmates At A Local Nightspot Results In Hazardous And Abusive Drinking And Symptoms Of An Alcohol Overdose

When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as an individual who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, "got down" and drank with her friends. She seemed driven to excel academically so that she would be able to find a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her some monetary stability.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a nationally ranked program in religion. Her logic behind this decision was that this subject matter would be a good foundation for law school and would not be comparable to the majority of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate major or minor.

Lois was the kind of person who worked hard to reach her objective and then would take a few days off when she could. It just so happens, however, that the vast majority of the things she did between school sessions or during summer breaks did not have much to do with drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were over and elated with the fact that she had done a super job on her exams, however, she wanted to let her hair down and have some fun.

So Lois and a few of her pals went to a local bar and grill where they started to have a few drinks. As the evening progressed, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. As a matter of fact she was having so much fun that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around forty-five minutes when Lois started to talk in a confused manner, slur her speech, and then become unconscious, however, her friends instantaneously realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for medical assistance because they thought that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she came an inch from losing her life due to an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was happy to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost died the previous night. Her parents knew how relentlessly she studied at school and how little she permitted herself to socialize with her buddies. Nevertheless, they also knew that Lois needed to steer clear of abusive and excessive drinking.

As a result, they suggested that in the future, whenever a drinking situation unfolds, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois agreed and swore to her parents and to her friends that she would never again drink in a hazardous manner. In her own words, "I never had a clue that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now grasp the fact that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not for me. I guarantee that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also possessed. That is, she immediately realized that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would not make the same error again. In fact, she now knew that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of excessive and hazardous drinking can end in death.
