Fibroids Symptoms?
Fibroids are a very common ailment and women around the world suffer
from it. Fibroids are formed in or around the uterus and are not cancerous in nature. They are made
up of muscle mass and tissues and are benign in nature. They are also called uterine myomas or
uterine fibroids.
Fibroids are usually formed during the reproductive phase of a
woman's life. In many cases they can go completely unnoticed because of their very small size or
location. Often they do not interfere with any bodily function or cause pain. Thus having no overt
fibroids symptoms, they are never diagnosed.
But that is not always the case. Sometimes fibroids grow large
enough that they become a health issue. Fibroids symptoms are different in different women but the
most common fibroid symptom is very heavy bleeding during menstruation. This heavy bleeding can
lead to anemia and weakness.
Another symptom of fibroids is that very large fibroids can cause
abdominal pain and cramps or can be felt as a certain heaviness in the abdomen. Pain due to unknown
cause is the most prominent fibroids symptom. Pains during urination, very frequent urination or
blocked urine flow are also fibroidc symptoms and indicate that there may be fibroids somewhere in
or near the bladder. If this growth is present around the rectal area it can also cause
constipation.
Since fibroids growth is unnatural, if significant in size it starts
exerting pressure on the surrounding organs. Severe back pain can be caused if they press any
nerves. Fibroids may also be a cause of pain during intercourse. So any pains felt in the pelvic
area may be symptoms of fibroids. One of the rare fibroids symptoms is edema or the swelling of
ankles and feet.
Infertility can also be caused by fibroids. Fibroids may cause a
blockage that doesn't let the sperm get to the egg. If conception takes place the pregnancy can be
complicated and miscarriage can take place. Fibroids can cause complications during labor. They can
complicate or even prevent the baby being born, by blocking the birth canal or affecting uterine
contractions.
The cause of fibroids is almost unknown and since common fibroid
symptoms do not manifest themselves in many women it is hard to diagnose fibroids. The only way to
keep constant check is to visit your gynecologist regularly and get treatment as soon as symptoms
of fibroids are discovered. Fibroids can be surgically removed but there are medicines that help
reduce and shrink the fibroids. Surgery should be the last option, used only after all other more
economic and less intrusive methods fail.
Some researches indicate that the occurrence of fibroids may also
have a genetic factor. Another reason for fibroids is hormonal imbalances. If the body starts
producing too much estrogen fibroids may be formed. That is more likely when a woman is pregnant or
is taking oral contraceptives. Other related factors are over-consumption of alcohol, obesity,
deficiency of B vitamins and/or consuming high quantities of fat in your diet.
There are even chances that fibroids may never bother you. But
there is also an equal chance that you might get into trouble if you have them and they go
unnoticed for lack of recognizing or paying attention to fibroids symptoms. Just keep going to your
gynecologist for regular checkups, especially if you are trying to conceive. Don't panic if
fibroids are detected in your uterus. There are simple natural treatments
available to shrink and get rid of fibroids so that you can live a care-free, healthy
life.
